Der International Gamers Award wird seit 2002 vergebenen. Die Verleihung wird durch eine international besetzte Jury (u.a. Erwin Broens, Knut-Michael Wolf, W. Eric Martin, Dale Yu etc.) vergeben.
Inzwischen stehen für die besten Brettspiele die Nominierten in drei Kategorien fest.
Die Auszeichnung erfolgte im Oktober rund um die SPIEL 2022.
